Terry Silver

Terry M. Silver, M.D., professor of radiology in the Medical School, retired from active faculty service on May 31, 2009.

Dr. Silver received his B.S. degree from the University of Michigan in 1966, and his M.D. degree from the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, in 1970. Following an internship at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, he completed his radiology residency at the University of Michigan from 1971-1974. He joined the University of Michigan faculty in 1974 as an instructor in radiology, and was promoted to assistant professor in 1975, associate professor in 1977, and professor in 1981.

Dr. Silver is widely recognized for his contributions in the subspecialty of ultrasonography. His bibliography reflects more than 80 publications in scientific journals and four published book chapters. He has participated in funded research investigations and has been an invited lecturer at national and international venues. Within the Department of Radiology, he served as director of the Division of Ultrasound from 1976-87, associate chair from 1984-92, and director of Postgraduate Medical Education Programs from 1992-2002. He was an oral board examiner for the American Board of Radiology for more than 10 years, and received its Distinguished Service Award in 2000. He also received the Harry Z. Mellins, M.D. Master Teacher Award in Radiology (1995) and the Frank L. Babbott, M.D. Memorial Award (2005) from the Alumni Association, College of Medicine, SUNY Downstate Medical Center, in recognition of his service to the medical profession and to the community.

The Regents now salute this distinguished medical educator and investigator for his dedicated service by naming Terry M. Silver professor emeritus of radiology.
