Robert Hutchcroft, Professor of Education, retired from active faculty status as of May 31, 1976.

A native of Kansas, Mr. Hutchcroft completed his undergraduate work at Colorado State College and received his A.B. in 1932. He received the A.M., also from Colorado State College of Education, in 1934, Mr. Hutchcroft received the Ed.D., in 1939 from Columbia University.

During the years 1932-47, Mr. Hutchcroft taught at Colorado State College of Education as an Instructor, Associate Professor and Professor. From 1947-54, he was a Professor of Industrial Arts at the State University of New York Teachers College at Oswego.

Mr. Hutchcroft was appointed by The University of Michigan in 1954 as an Associate Professor of Industrial Arts Education in the Department of Vocational Education and Practical Arts of the School of Education. He was promoted to Professor of Education in 1961. Mr. Hutchcroft was brought to the School of Education to study, develop, and promote the area of preparation of teachers for industrial arts. Under his tutelage, the program, though small, was recognized for its excellent quality. In 1962, as the Department of Vocational Education and Practical Arts was phased out, Mr. Hutchcroft became involved in the School of Education's Advising Office. He later assumed full responsibility for the Advising Office and provided exceptional service to students and faculty in teacher education in all units of the University. During his 22 years with the University, Mr. Hutchcroft was recognized for his dedicated energetic contributions to the School of Education and teacher preparation programs.

In recognition of this distinguished educator for his dedicated service, the Regents name C. Robert Hutchcroft, Professor Emeritus of Education.
