As Ray Lyle Fisher withdraws from the active faculty and assumes emeritus status, the Regents of the University extend to him their sincere thanks for the thirty-seven years of devoted service he has given the University as Supervisor in Physical Education and Baseball Coach.
Mr. Fisher earned the A.B. degree at Middlebury College in 1910 and was Director of Athletics at Middlebury College from 1911 to 1915. In the years 1909 to 1920 he became widely known as a baseball pitcher, first for the New York Americans and later for the Cincinnati Nationals. From 1917 to 1918 he was a Sergeant in the United States Army.
His love of baseball and his keen analysis of the game, these he imparted to the boys who tried out for his teams. His Yankee humor appealed to his players and endeared him to them.
The Regents wish Mr. Fisher enjoyment of his well-earned leisure. They confer upon him the titles Supervisor Emeritus in Physical Education and Baseball Coach Emeritus, and invite him to avail himself of the courtesies that are usually shown emeritus members of the faculty.
