A recognized authority on criminology, ORLANDO W. STEPHENSON, Ph.D.'19, joined the faculty in 1916, and is Professor of History and Head of the Department of Social Studies in University High School. He studied criminal investigation at Scot land Yard in London, and at the Surete in Paris, and has been active in numerous criminal investigations in Michigan and other states. He was on the Ann Arbor Police Commission for six years, serving most of this time as Chairman. Dr. Stephenson received the B.S. degree in civil engineering from Michigan Agricultural College and the M.A. from the University of Chicago. He began his career in the educational field as principal of first Evart and then Holland High school. He also taught at the Arkansas State Teachers College and the University of Chicago before joining the Michigan faculty.
