Instructor in Nursing (Medical-Surgical Nursing Specialties), University of Michigan School of Nursing, 1959-1961.

Subsequently, White was an instructor in nursing at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, Maryland.

Joan E. White and John Autian, an associate professor of pharmacy at University of Texas, are the authors of “The Teaching Machine: A New Aid for Nursing Education?” American Journal of Nursing, Vol. 61, No. 10 (Oct. 1961), pp. 64-66. The authors proposed that the idea had promise and its possibilities should be explored.
