Jane G. Wilson Coon

Jane Wilson Coon, D.N.S., R.N., assistant professor of nursing in the School of Nursing, retired from active faculty status on December 31, 2000, after 14 years of service to the University of Michigan.

Professor Coon received her B.S.N. degree from the University of Michigan in 1964, her M.S. degree from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1967, and her D.N.S. degree from the University of California at San Francisco in 1983. She first joined the University of Michigan faculty in 1967 as a lecturer in the School of Nursing and was promoted to assistant professor in 1969. From 1970-71, she was the assistant to the dean. From 1971-83, Professor Coon served on the faculty of the University of Toronto. She returned to the University of Michigan as an assistant professor in 1986.

Professor Coon has been the coordinator of the classes "Client Care Management in Health Care Systems" and "Professional Nursing Practice" from 1992 until her retirement. She has also been active on numerous University faculty committees and student thesis projects. She has made numerous presentations, has done extensive research on cardiac issues, and has authored many books and journal articles. She currently has two research projects in progress: "A Surgical Outcomes Study at the University of Michigan Medical Center" and "Treatment of Early Pressure Ulcers in Critically Ill Patients," funded by 3M Corporation.

The Regents now salute this faculty member by naming Jane Wilson Coon assistant professor emerita of nursing.
