Graham Rex Holland, Ph.D., professor of dentistry in the School of Dentistry, will retire from active faculty status on December 31, 2016.

Professor Holland received his B.Sc. (1968), B.D.S. (1971), and Ph.D. (1975) degrees from the University of Bristol. He served on the faculties of the University of Alberta, the University of Iowa, and the University of Manitoba. He joined the University of Michigan faculty as a professor in 1995. Professor Holland is an internationally recognized leader and researcher in the field of dentistry with special expertise in the areas of endodontics and orofacial pain. His research was funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Medical Research Council of Canada. Professor Holland published seventy-two peer reviewed scientific papers, ten books, and nine book chapters. He served as the president of the Pulp Biology Group of the International Association for Dental Research. He chaired the Research and Scientific Affairs Committee of the American Association of Endodontists from 2003-06. Notably, Professor Holland has been the editor-in-chief of the Archives of Oral Biology since 1996. As department chair, he fostered the careers of innumerous faculty colleagues in Canada and the United States. Professor Holland's extensive service on the University of Michigan Faculty Senate Assembly included chairing both the Committee for a Multicultural University (2006-09) and the Civil Liberties Board (2006-09). Professor Holland received the Pulp Biology Research Award, the highest recognition in the field of endodontics, from the International Association for Dental Research in 1997.

The Regents now salute this distinguished faculty member by naming Graham Rex Holland, professor emeritus of dentistry.
